It really depends on the industry. Outsourcing is real problem as the low level jobs for people looking to cut their teeth aren't there because they would rather just give them to streetshitters with zero ambition. Then you have the infinitely tenured boomers who are so ingrained in the system you can't get rid of them and they are the ones who now decide who gets hired. I think in a lot of cases the zoomers have a right to be upset because the opportunity literally isn't there. "Just build your own" isn't feasible, it's not 1985 and to even compete now would require well over a billion dollars. If you want to talk about trades, it's actually really hard to get into those unless you know someone who can give you a recommendation. Even then you are going to be priced out of work by unskilled mexicans. Truckers aren't even trained properly anymore. The military used to be a viable path but now is just a gibs machine for women and faggots. Until big tech starts imploding in on itself we're screwed.

It's been amazing to me to see just over the last twenty or so years how whole layers of accounting and tech jobs have just vanished.

So it isn't that you can't work and make things happen, it's that if you kill yourself with long hours you might be able to snag a non obese wife with only a few tats and a couple STDs and buy a small house in an area with only the occasional shooting every year. What's even worse than all that, particularly in places like America or Canada or Australia, is that there isn't really a sense of being an "American" or belonging to an "American" community. Sure you might try to make things work for yourself, but the major difference between those previous generations is that even if times were bad, there was the concept of "America" to aspire to improve.Now all anyone sees is McDonalds franchises, trash, hordes swarthy outsiders, and concrete block apartments. Who's going to struggle for that?

It never clicks in their heads though because…they’re the same people. I see no evidence to suggest that they wouldn’t make the same stupid mistakes their grandparents did given the same situation.
