I wonder what would happen if I just stopped popping my brain candy. I was in a much worse place emotionally when I was first put on them, and while I still have my moments of freakout or can't-do-anything depression it's nowhere near as often or to levels back then.

@coldacid My "not medical advice" would be to reduce dosage and see how you feel for a bit at that level. Going cold turkey with those is not recommended.

@coldacid I would look into it, and try the taper off method. Even *if* the medications were necessary at the beginning, the thing that gets me is this: how are you supposed to know whether or not they are still necessary? Physicians are trained in prescribing, but not un-prescribing.This isn't necessary for stimulants like methylphenidate, or "adderall" (amphetamine style)

@coldacid @IceCubeSoup I had a hate relationship with them for decades. Didn't like the way they made me "not feel," so I stopped taking them and just tried to survive.Advance to split with ex, PCP suggested another, says good results with other people, start at 25mg (normal dose 50-200mg)And that's where it's been for 9 years. Just enough to reduce the peaks and valleys without the "emotionless zombie" of past ones.As I said before, taper off and see how you feel. "Not medical advice."

@coldacid my mom was put on them after her divorce, but her doctor was so based that he refused to renew her prescription until she saw a therapist, and only then let her have one last month's worth of pills...
