how we will find meaning in a world where work is optional due to robotics, AI and universal basic income?:

@CSB I always find it inetersting that you think that all workers are going away. Not every job is a white collar job. If you think an AI is going to somehow make you a hardened steel gear without a human, good luck.Maybe we need an opposite term for luddite, like technocrat. I think that would fit you.

@bjbroderick @CSB What I like is that it will be Utopia! Did you see how everyone was so happy and relaxed and carefree!!! I guess each person just gets the wages that the robots get that replaced them. And I guess perfect healthcare access. Looks like some propaganda for the Farm!! Just teach your kids this and wait for Mad Max!!

@CSBI don't believe your premise is correct, but I'll entertain it. Humans don't just stop working because their jobs begone unnecessary. They instead find or make new work, branching out into completely new industries or disciplines that weren't even pipe dreams previously. Space exploration alone will turn up plenty of jobs for people. If you like these kinds of theories, you should read more sci-fi. This sort of speculation is nothing new.

@CSBThere is basically zero probability of that happening. We'll find something to do for work, even if it's "unnecessary" work. There are still cobblers, watchmakers, and jewelers, for example. That's because people don't just want to wear Crocs, Casios, and mass market jewelry. The human touch is worth money.

@CSBAgain, you need to read more sci-fi. Asimov alone has dozens of works discussing this sort of possibility. I'm not saying they're correct, but they're food for thought. Also, humanoid robots being useful, much less mass-marketable, is way off in the very distant future. You and I probably won't see it. It's the new flying cars.
