@stsmith @mikegastin thumbing through the cut-outs in the early 90s was rewarding: there were plenty of musicians who don't suck, or at least understand that their job is entertainment, not ideological communication.Many of them released records between the 1912 and the late 80s. There was some good stuff in the 90s, too, but very little of it hit the radio in North America. With all the crappy ska and heroin-rock, it felt like a decade of novelty records and pretense.

@jeremiah I don’t mind a musician or a band that has a message or even an ideology. (Although ideologies always suck because they’re so abstracted.) Creators can and should have something to say. However, when you call yourself “Rage Against the Machine” and you suck up to that machine harder than a Hoover, well, screw you, you pathetic shill of a sellout, shallow excuse for an artist. @jeremiah @mikegastin I never liked Green Day personally. I didn't have anything overtly against them, I just didn't like that style of music. I did like rage against the machine but never really heard them that much in my area as the format of the radio stations didn't match their style. I actually didn't mind the messaging in some of their videos although I thought they had the wrong party pegged as the totalitarians. But when I saw the Soviet star and the chevera logos, I was done.

I've stuck to rural systems and they're fairly sane, but society is just turning everyone including the kids into a cesspool of imbeciles, to quote Harlan Ellison. I'm finding the increasing loads of bullshit harder and harder to tolerate quietly. This does not bode well for my long-term employment!
