Kind of shitty that sdr-trunk is the only viable software for decoding P25 using an SDR. SDRAngel has a closed issue saying they were going to add a decoder for it, but I think because of patent encumbrances they've dropped it.I learned that most SDR hardware is supported by a vendor-agnostic project that provides an API called SoapySDR.Might get into it a bit after I'm done my current project with my BladeRF.

@eriner I can never see SDRangle without thinking about that grifter Charles Rangle. Isn’t there a decoder with a wolf-like name?I had it downloaded once but never figured it out.

@eriner IMBE is a licensed product but been reverse engineered many times over (see OP25 and DSDPlus, though not active development). The 'issues' likely come depending on the system standard. There's alot of support and scanners for Phase I. Not so much Phase II or X2-TDMA.

@eriner If you're looking for better hardware than an RTL-SDR dongle I use a LimeSDR mini. SoapySDR is pretty stable, you can hang a Pi on your network with a LimeSDR and Soapy Remote. You'll probably have to acquire an AMBE 3000 chip if you want to decode everything, unfortunately. I just picked up a Zum AMBE server (AMBE 3000 interfaced to an ESP32) this past week. Expensive but I'm planning on interfacing my D-Star repeater with Allstar to get into the club's analog repeater network.

@ReadyKilowatt @eriner as I mentioned in the OP, I have a BladeRF. Much more capable than an RTL-SDR or a LimeSDR mini, heh.

@ReadyKilowatt what's your allstar set-up? I just set up a couple hamvoip Pi3's. One personal node and installed one on a club repeater yesterday.

@eriner Have you looked at Unitrunker? It's been a few years, but I thought it was the nicest (still not great, though) option out there. I had to run it in a Windows VM, which did suck.

@ndz The club system is using a Rpi for the server and RTCM modules at the repeater sites. I'm running Pi-Star for the DV side and going to set up DVSwitch on another Pi with a private reflector to bridge the networks. More as an experiment than anything else, but something to do over the winter. I just got the Pi-Star working and need to get a handle on that before doing the rest.

@ReadyKilowatt Cool project. Keep us posted how it goes.Being new to AllStar I went with the hamvoip package and it just works (so far). There's some nasty dispute between ASL and Hamvoip that I'm trying to ignore.I saw there's a DVSwitch module for hamvoip but I haven't gotten there yet. Just this morning I set up an on-demand weather forecast script. #60250
