Anyone had experience with Dupixent? My wife is considering it for our two year old for his bad eczema, and I’d like to understand it more before doing any sort of injection. Please boost for visibility

@Brycicle Resident PharmD here who has mild intermittent eczema.I'd be CAUTIOUS and ensure you look at root causes first (diet, gut health, etc.). It's generally well tolerated, but effectiveness can wane after 1-2 years. It's also VERY expensive - you'll have to get approval if you have insurance and should look into copay assistance here: https://www.dupixent.com/support-savings/copay-cardRead the full prescribing Info: https://www.regeneron.com/downloads/dupixent_fpi.pdf

I've got nothing on the Dupixent, but I do have a friend whose eczema I was and still is caused by sugar intake. He has flare ups when his sugar intake goes up and it goes away as soon as he stops the sugar. It's thought to be from the gut bugs consuming sugar and producing a product that's incompatible with the host, causing a skin rash. It makes me wonder if your child's skin condition may be something similar.

@Brycicle It helps some people with eczema or fully-body dandruff. Water rinse -> light detergent/soap wash -> vinegar rinse/soak (if it burns, rinse it away) -> deep soap wash.It helped me, though the doctor who diagnosed it used a catchall and acted like a moron, so I doubt that was my actual problem. He didn't recommend vinegar, I was using that for other reasons and discovered that it helped more than expected. However, that might be because of extraordinarily hard water; I can't say.

@EarlThePearls @Brycicle relatively new drug. we got 1 patient on it so far at the pharmacy with no issues/side effects. since your child is only 2 though, i'd imagine he is getting it straight from the ped. they will tell you to contact them for specific reactions. You'll probably need a prior auth for it as well from your insurance. Ped will take care of that. As for as efficacy, it was shown to be 3 times more effective than placebo in clinical trials. A decent result.
