I’m still reeling from learning last week that floppy disks were literally floppy.ppl in the 80s were really living in a magnetpunk world and acting like it’s nbd rather than actual fucking wizardry

@shortridge Unfortunately they came in the rectangular plastic casing ("save icon") and you would need to destroy the housing to get to the nice floppy insides :blobcatpensive: (At least the 3.5 in ones I had in my childhood.)

@shortridge #KidzThezeDayz. So spoiled they've lost the magic.(First PC I worked on had 2 disk drives, but no hard drive. Had to put a DOS boot disk in to make it run.)

@taylan @shortridge The 5.25 inch ones were floppy. As were the 8 inch ones before that.

@taylan @shortridge To be clear, I never used the 8 inch ones, but one of my jobs back in the day had archives on them. But no more computers that used them. Yes, I worked for the government. 🙃

@Fullycaffeinated @taylan @shortridge I'm a slightly different sort of old in tech - I still possess a zip drive. In a not used tower PC, but it'd work if I plugged it in. I was so 'edgy' havin a zip drive back in the day.
