@creamqueen 10 is pretty good and yes removal of bloat helps a lot. 10 wasn't that bloated to begin with though unless you got some OEM shit. 11 is what made me finally make the leap to linux full time because it was that fuckin bad. 12 is probably going to be way worse.

@RustyCrab I'm using Windows quite a lot since I installed it a couple of days ago (I've been daily driving Micro OS Aeon since mid 2023 I think). I don't hate it as much as I used to, but I'm biased since I just had a very painful experience trying out some meme Linux distros on my laptop just for the sake of it :dementia:. On the plus side, games, also WingetUI seems an excellent package manager compared to just downloading shit manually from a website and makes it closer in convenience to using Synaptic/etc on Linux. On the not so stellar side, bunch of bullshit ads and random shit you would never see on Linux, integrated from installation. Fuck that shit.

@smug I have to use windows for work but for personal stuff I just got tired of it and its rather horrific privacy implications as well as increasing usability issues for power users. Windows 11 is what really made me jump ship. 10 was a dream compared to 11 and windows 12 is looking to move to 'cloud only'. If they actually do that I am not touching that shit with a 10 foot pole.

There are certain things you can do such as disabling core isolation and virtual machine support to speed it up. Why does VM support nerf the entire system? Who the fuck knows but it does.

During my whole life writing for extended periods of time with them made my hands hurt, my handwriting was complete jank and whenever I tried to write in cursive it just didn't feel well. I bought the cheapest fountain pen on the planet some time ago and that one was indeed built for cursive, it just fucking works and it feels amazing, I could only compare it to what I imagine normies feel while having sex. @NathanielHigger1488 @Kerosene @Shadowbroker2135 through years of using different windows versions I have found out that 98+% of the time BSODs are from shitty driver installations causing problems in otherwise stable windows components. Every time I have ever had BSOD issues on 10 OR 11 I have always narrowed it down to some bloatware driver that was installed at some point and removing it fixed everything. 10 nor 11 was ever crashy. 10 was just consistently snappy and 11 feels like I am continually swimming through mud.

@RustyCrab i use 11 on my gayming laptop because tiger lake intel graphics still (!!!) doesnt play well with xorg(dont even get me started on w*yland) and it also has a 3070 which im not willing to go through passthrough autism to use it properly. i was worried about all the bloat but my i9 doesnt care(i get why some /g/ guys just accuse of being poor when you use linux)also used to need the newest compilers so i used arch but now that i write more rust i dont need that and just use ubuntu on wsl.

@diazepam the problems with 11 aren't so much dedicated performance once you have the applications up and running but rather switching between applications. For instance opening new editors and onetime tools such as Voidtools Everything. Opening random text files takes 2-3 seconds compared to win10 or linux where its sub-100ms. I don't know how you fuck up responsiveness this bad.

@RustyCrab weird that never occurrd to me, its actually snappier than 10 ltsc because 12 has that "loading optimization" thing like iOS where it loads the window first then renders the elements later. maybe thats acting up 4 u.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @RustyCrab I'll probably never own an Apple device unless I get it for free. Mostly because of the price but also because I want expensive things to be bulletproof and repairable.That Rossmann guy demonstrated well enough how little it takes to turn a macbook into an expensive paperweight and what hoops they often jump through to repair them while Apple themselves charge for "repairs" so much you might as well buy a new device.I've thought about trying the software with a hackintosh set up but that still requires compatible hardware and more time than I want to spend on such a project right now.

@BitterPill @WashedOutGundamPilot yeah, macos is *livable* in terms of software quality but their hardware is legitimately trash. The people who praise it are not actually giving their computers real work to do. I very much do and they don't hold up well

@smug @BitterPill @WashedOutGundamPilot yes the M series in a case that gave a shit about cooling might be a good computer. Apple will never give a shit about cooling however. If your computer doesn't break why would you buy a new computer?

@RustyCrab been running linux since maybe 2014-ish and very recently went back to win10 ltsc on my desktopdon't really care much nowadays, use the same software i use in linux but holy fuck i tried win11 once and it fucking sucks dick, literally worse than vista

WIndows 11 is so bad I can barely believe it. Everything that should be a user setting is now some damn registry key that affects the whole system and requires the IT department to approve with an administrator password.
