Turns out the vaunted thinkpads had a few [years where they just burned out the type C ports if they didn't have the right updates..kind of ruins that image of the invincible old IBM. I've had a new thinkpad every 4 years at my job and each iteration they get worse. Even though it sounds like a jet engine taking off when running on full blast it struggles to open emails in the bloatware that is windows 11.

like, for example, i've seen people say that their current gen thinkpad E series laptops they got are completely flawless, while other people say the one they got was a mess. All I suppose now is to keep the OEM's phone number at hand when you get a new product so you can have it swapped in case you got a lemonin my case, i've seen people say the laptop i have is pretty nice for the price and built well, but in my case, the hinge broke and the rubber feet fell off... I'm not sure if I'd get another consumer level lenovo, but at the same time, this laptop support linux completely well

@Noraweed @narada @WashedOutGundamPilot @mischievoustomato @Kyonko802 Framework 16 was on my shortlist for that reason, but by the time I was ordering, the waitlist was 2024Q1, and now it's 2024Q2, meanwhile my GPD Win Mini, despite delays, arrived in mid December at half the price of my desired Framework config.I still wish Framework all the best and hope they can source a Radeon RX 7900m and produce a module with passthrough ports at the back.

Small-run manufacturers are always going to be in a weird position when it comes to margins, best they can do is go above and beyond whenever things go wrong so that they at least keep the trust of their customers.

Had a fast nvme drive and windows 11 preinstalled. The biggest bottleneck with windows is the hard drive, so a fast SSD is a must, as well as at least 16 gigs of ram. Made a good gift for my normie parents, especially compared to the sluggish POS they had before.
