You're not supposed to see every post by the people you follow on social media. The idea is a river of news. You follow lots of smart people and they all boost a lot, and the odds are you see the best stuff during the limited time you're checking your feed here. You boost it too. It's word of mouth at the speed and size of the internet, not a subscription newsletter service. I see people complaining about missing posts. They want an algorithm. That's because the best accounts aren't here yet.

@wjmaggos Not to mention, if they REALLY want to see a post, they can turn on notifications.

@TammyGentzel @wjmaggos Since William tagged my post with empty link instead of talking at my thread, this isn't what I said. I want user control of the existing Mastodon algorithm so users can see what they want instead of site owners spoon-feeding & approving what's suggested to their users under Explore. Choosing accounts we follow, publishers we like, and Hashtags am interested in would be a great improvement for posts missed while working, sleeping, etchttps://oldfriends.live/@paul/111673240118405654

@paul @TammyGentzel sorry if I got you wrong. I replied to your first post that seemed to be saying the same thing somebody else also basically said to me today. so I posted it and replied to both of you with a link to it. sorry again.

@wjmaggos @TammyGentzel No. It's all good. I thought I would respond here. I didn't really take it as bad. I took it as an invitation to talk here about it since it was blank link.

@wjmaggos Using lists for accounts you want to prioritize should help?

@wjmaggos @jcrabapple Not sure this makes sense to me. Mastodon is pretty much what you’ve suggested it shouldn’t be. I have followed a set # of accounts and I see all posts they make that are public / follower-only. I also see things they decide to boost. This is great, I always scroll my whole timeline and it’s the best version of social media I personally have experienced. I prefer it greatly over the never ending algorithmic river you get on say, Threads.

@wjmaggos That’s one of many ways to use social media, but as somebody who has never used an algorithmic feed, it’s the opposite of what I want. I don’t think there’s one correct way, and if there were, reading all the things your friends wrote would be closer than not caring if you miss them.
