If everyone is on UBI (Universal Basic Income), who is being taxed to provide the funds for the government to provide UBI?(And please don’t say corporations. Companies don’t pay taxes.)

@Bunnyslope You don’t need to pay taxes when they can just print money from thin air 🤷‍♂️ 😂

@Bunnyslope the idea behind it being universal is that everyone gets it, even those who won't consider it enough to live well enough on. most won't. many will pay more in taxes than they get in UBI. but we'd get rid of most other support systems we have now if we switched to it, or at least that's the idea. it should be enough that nobody would be homeless, for example. maybe we'd get rid of social security. no more minimum wage laws. it could remove a lot of bureaucracy.

@BoredStupid @Bunnyslope The purpose of taxes is control over the economy. Choosing who will have a wet towels placed on them. Government funding and spending no longer have relation to each other.

@Bishop @Bunnyslope 1. will people work enough?2. what does inflation have to say about this rolled out to an entire country or the world?these are my two main questions I'd like better answered before I fully support UBI.I don't think anybody really understands inflation. it's basically as complicated as the economy itself.

@wjmaggos @Bunnyslope the reason this happens is that value of a useful item is often tied to rarity. If there is less of something, people have to compete for it by offering more of something else in exchange. Its just basic supply/demand. This is also why "raising the minimum wage" never actually works. Sounds nice in theory, but costs go up (because labor is a massive cost) so prices follow - and also, everyone can afford to pay more $ to compete (while its worth less than it used to be)

@wjmaggos @Bunnyslope This is also why be now have self serve checkouts/ordering. When you have to pay teenagers $15/hour to scan items at the boop machine or to get your order wrong at McDicks, the math doesn't work. As min wage goes up and price of technology goes down (while quality goes up) you reach a point where its economically infeasible to pay people (not to mention, benefits, taxes, pension, etc.)

@Bunnyslope 1st, corporations do pay taxes. I hate corporations, but stupidity is worse. In theory it's paid for by incomes which are taxed more than the ubi pays, the same people who pay the majority of the current tax burden.Tariffs and the like can also pay out a ubi. Like Venezuela or guyana collects on oil.

@Pantangelini Sorry, as a business owner I can tell you that I do not pay taxes, nor does ANY other company. The people who buy my products and services pay my taxes. If any government (local or federal) increases taxes, do you honestly believe that I *voluntarily* reduce my net profit? Nope. Taxes are a cost of doing business, the same as any of my supplies, utilities, rent, etc. If they increase, my costs increase and subsequently my prices rise.

@Bunnyslope no, I didn't miss the point. You are suggesting that your business doesn't pay anything as all expenses are a cost of doing business, therefore paid by customers. Which is some asinine bernie sanders logic.Also.corporations are people, ask the government.I do understand people with w2s are taxed more than others, but w2 folks aren't the sole bearers of the tax burden.

@Bunnyslope companies own property, and pay property tax, but I suppose that's a cost of doing business so customers pat that, and employees wages are also a cost of doing business, so clearly customers pay employees w2 taxes too. Therefore nobody actually pays taxes, only customers.

@Pantangelini If you were being sarcastic, then you are actually closer than you think. All taxes are paid by consumers. Profit margin is a function of the price elasticity of the good or service that I am selling.

@Bunnyslope ohh but you forget that those customers get their money from companies who employ them, so it is in fact the companies and not people who pay all taxes.

@Bunnyslope @Pantangelini Sales tax, that would mean all prices go higher inflated, perpetual poverty. Its how universal income would work. They can control who starves or not, who lives who dies. I could be wrong

@Pantangelini Are you really this dense?Facebag charges advertisers (corporations). If taxes increase, advertising rates increase. Advertisers charge their customers more for their products for the advertising that they do. If advertising rates go up, they charge even more. Advertisers profits don’t go down because of the advertising costs. If fewer corporations advertise, rates continue to increase, and/or revenue increases through other means (verified users) or reduced services.
