Is vacuum tube life on an amplifier total operating hours? Or does turning it off and on a bunch reduce the life? I guess what I really want to know can I heat my room with my amp reasonably safely if I never turn it off?

I think leaving it on for days on end is probably better than turning it on for just a few hours each day. The tube tinkle as they heat up and cool down. I'd wager that heat cycling is what's really doing most of the damage to tube life. Electronics nerds out there care to chime in?

@BoredStupid while in service, my amps will heat a dj booth like you don't wanna know. But they aren't using tubes.

@Pantangelini I don't reckon it's just tube life that could cripple me. It's dry and dusty here. That can't be good for capacitors. They're also pretty big. I'm kind of one day expecting a spectacular failure.

@groupw I have to manually adjust each one every couple of months or so. The owner's manual said not to over do it. So I don't even check unless something just sounds a little funny or off.Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum III, if you're into that sort of info. You seem like you may know more about it than I do. 😂

@BoredStupid I'd wait until the sound degrades to replace them. If you can't find kt-120's you can use kt-88's in that amp. Just remember to re bias whenever you replace tubes and then again after burn in.

@BoredStupid I don't know alot about vacuum tubes but can you shut off the bias current while leaving the heaters on ? Or just drop the heaters to half power ?
