Man, i've done quite a bit of #Perl #Programming today lolLearned how to use the perldoc command (Which is fantastic).Learned how to make a "virtualenv" of perl (It's not really called that, but it's effectively what it is.) with Cpanminus.Learned how to use Arrays.Learned how to do regex.Learned how to use environment variables. So i'd say I did pretty good today =P

@jrdepriest@infosec.exchange PerlMonks has helped me a lot. Especially with finding the best CPAN modules to use for a specific job!

@charadon Not sure anyone every really learns 'regex' fully, it's a huge topic! But if you learned to use some regular expressions in Perl that's a great start.I think you're setting up an env, not a virtualenv, if you're just using cpanm, but Perl does have locallib for when you want an 'env' which isn't the default for the computer you're on.

@charadon Have you been to https://www.perl.org/learn.html ? Especially these parts:* Free online #Perl books: https://www.perl.org/books/library.html* Books and more: https://www.perl.org/media.html@OReillyMedia used to be the canonical source for Perl #books, and the Camel https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/programming-perl-4th/9781449321451/ and Llama https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/learning-perl-8th/9781492094944/ are classics. The latter 🦙 saw a new edition in 2021, but the former 🐪 has languished since 2012 and “previews” v5.16. (Perl v5.38.2 was released last month.)

@charadon If you prefer, all the built-in documentation from `perldoc` is also on the web at https://perldoc.perl.org, including releases going back to 1998’s #Perl 5.005.

@charadon @jrdepriest Are you following https://chirp.social/@Perl ? Apart from the #Perl hashtag, it’s how Perl users on the #fediverse talk to each other. Every post from a follower to that account is reposted to the other (currently 465) followers of that account.

@charadon Learning Perl (that’s the Llama Book) and its sequels are pretty good.
