Remember the ban on trans women playing in women's chess? Turns out there's only one trans woman playing chess at a competitive level internationally. Yosha Iglesias of France is feeling singled out as an intentional ban turns out to impact only her. #news #trans #transgender #chess #news https://www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-news/the-bbc-found-one-1-trans-woman-impacted-by-trans-ban-in-chess

@e_urq I'm actually gobsmacked to learn today, that there is such a thing as men's chess and women's chess!!!!

@nomdeb @e_urq There aren’t. There’s open and there’s women’s chess. But no men’s chess.Women’s chess was created because there were few players and fewer competitive players. It’s intended to give women a place to compete and grow.Any woman can play in the open, and as can any other gender. Afaik many women play in both. Not once have I read anything about the opinion of the trans woman mentioned above. This whole thing is engineered to upset people and get them fighting:(

@breadbin @e_urq Ah that makes more sense. :) I was flabbergasted to think that men's and women's chess were separated! Thanks for clarifying. :)

@nomdeb @e_urq Sports are a weird thing, where the sport most often came first, then a ban on women, and then a lifted ban and then a women’s league. Then add to it that it’s inherently super elitist and rules constantly change. The idea of fair really doesn’t exist in sports. So great place to create a giant fake stand and avoid taking about things that should be really important. Human rights, healthcare, safety, discrimination. Because those are what they intend to take away.

@breadbin @nomdeb This is like... for me, transition or no transition, I am 5'2". There's no sport my body type could even theoretically excel at, as a mn or a woman, other than a jockey I guess. So this prissiness about women's sports and competitive advantage completely leaves me cold. Every athlete of every gender who has had any success at all has an unfair advantage over me. But somehow it only matters when it's time to exclude trans women? No.

@nomdeb @e_urq And to be crystal clear. Trans rights are human rights, and I personally don’t watch sports anyways. It just reeks of “cake” if you remember that BS:(What pains me is that women have had to fight for their rights, and should join in to fight for the rights of all women instead of starting a fight.I only lack a few things to be at the top of the rights pyramid, but I want everyone below me to get to my level. Human rights for everyone.
