My latest and greatest, possibly my new home defense rifle.Springfield Hellion, better known as the VHS-2. It’s a Croatian standard issue import.Bullpup guns like this (where action and mag are in rear, and trigger is forward) aren’t very popular, but that’s because most bullpups suck. Not this one.5.56. 8lb but feels light because weight is in the back. 16” barrel but much shorter than an AR15. Trigger pull is long and mushy as with all bullpups. Fully ambi. Can clear malfunctions.

@ThatCrazyDude hopefully the Texas lawsuit moves forward, the NFA is repealed, and/or suppressors are purchasable without begging the masters. The VHS-2 is the perfect gun for me to suppress (while range firing, not for CQB home defense). However I refuse to pay government goons for hearing protection.

@eriner here in Italy even if you'd be willing to pay you can't have a suppressor. Not an option at all. Communist scum....

I got this one from mechtechsys.com to scratch an itch about shorter rifle and also combine ammo spending, makes a rifle from glock 20 or 40, also if need be this becomes a side arm by puting the slide back, no tools, this is a lego situationno 556 just 10mm as rifle or pistol, logic is: if 10mm can take on bears should be good for home defense, then same pakcage goes as side arm in 1 minfor ammo I use ammoseek.com ro filter out on price and grains

I’m still contemplating attachments. Probably a streamlight m-lok flashlight, 45deg pic rail adapter for a holo sight, 1-6x main scope. That, and a suppressor once government goons stop arresting people for hearing protection attachments. Other than that, anything else would be money better spent on FMJ.If there are any gun guys out there that want to make suggestions, I’m all ears.

@zero3point13 I’d rather have a dedicated rifle and a dedicated sidearm, but interesting concept. Spooks me a little. Probably fine in practice, 10mm is plenty for deer, heck even 9mm is fine depending on distance and your marksmanship.

@eriner Bullpup, you absolute mad lad.if it is truly for home defense, and not "property defense", aka it is CQB focused: I went with an integrated light/laser that mounts directly under bore, no offset like the peq15 style.then when you zero it, you only have to "compensate" for elevation, not windage. and at those ranges windage won't matter, literal point and shoot.

@IceCubeSoup @eriner if you can get the SBR version and not the goofball version, the p90 is pretty great.Except ammo prices. :(

@eriner I have been talking with Springfield about a .308 version that is integrally supresssed. It makes perfect sense for hunters and law enforcement. It should be no problem to switch barrels from the toy round to a .308 depending on the purpose. This means law enforcement could use it for daily use or sniper use and it could be supressed.

@erinerIt sounds like you have the basics covered. A light and a switch so you can activate the light without moving your support hand is a good idea on a defensive weapon. I'd also put a sling on it if it will be a defensive weapon.

@SirRichard Yeah it's for CQB home defense. Lots of pros to using a bullpup over an AR15 platform rifle for that IMO. In particular, once mounted on shoulder you can operate it strong-hand only. Meaning you can open doors w/ support hand while maintaining the ability to fire. Unlike an SBR there isn't a flash in your face on every shot. Seems like a great compromise between a handgun and a traditional (semi-)automatic rifle, though I also appreciate the argument "just buy a 12ga"

@Arthur_500 5.56 is a fine caliber for CQB while maintaining reasonable power for moderate distance shooting. But I agree, at long distances (which for most American settings is 100m+) .308 is probably the better caliber. My .308 of choice is a SCAR17S, but not a bullpup and no integrated suppressor of course.

@eriner I would look at getting some secondary flip-up "iron" sites that you can use in case your scope is broken or you have to engage targets closer than 50 yd. If I remember correctly, Magpul makes a nice ghost ring set that you could mount on a 45° attachment on your rail if there's room.Don't forget, you still have to site those suckers in just like your main scope! 😁

@eriner it is not a bad choice, just rare to see, and, you still have the barrel length to use it "across the property" if needed.

@eriner If shtf mags and ammo for it will be everywhere. I've made most my purchase decisions on that fact. A ruger 10/22 is a must in my book as well for the same reason.

@eriner I don't know what you had in mind for the LPVO, but I just picked up a Primary Arms SLX 1-6x24 (NOVA reticle)for my new rifle. I usually don't go for optics at this low price point, but I figured I'd give it a chance. Man it is pretty nice for the cost!https://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-slx-1-6x24mm-sfp-rifle-scope-gen-4-illuminated-acss-nova-fiber-wire-reticle

@Kasper it might be smarter for me to use a red for and a magnifier on a flip. That way I can have a centered red dot with magnification if I need it (unlikely most of the time)
