... so they are phasing out sim cards now. Now you get an "esim"It's probably... fine. But some old lady part of me feels like it can't possibly be as secure... Like I get it It's not even that hard to hack a physical sim and write whatever on it... but... it just felt more real. I will get over it.

@futurebirdThe non-transferability sucks though. You're travelling, your phone gets wet and you buy a new one, now you need to somehow convicne your ISP that you're you. Second factor SMS? Can't receive? Better come by our store. Great.

@futurebird mostly I don't like not having the option of removing my SIM card if I don't want my phone broadcasting where I am

@infernusgoatus#Android let's you disable them though. I'm pretty sure it doesn't broadcast anything when you disable the SIM. @futurebird

@futurebirdI am firmly convinced e-sims are a step backwards. Sim cards are compatible with all devices, but with e-sims you never quite know, and you have to get Some External Company to switch your e-sim for you.

@planettimmyAlso, because it's software, it just doesn't work. Lol. Stick a physical SIM into your phone? Done.Try get an esim? First of all can't scan a QR code from your phone's screen and inserting the code manually just never worked for me. While travelling I already twice had to ask a random person to take a photo of the QR code so that I could take a photo of their phone 🤷@futurebird

@cthululemonI forgot the name, but there is a project that built a #Bitcoin wallet that runs in a smart card and you interact with using the "SIM Toolkit" app. The smartcard stack is proprietary though and I've heard you have to write #Java without access to a heap 😅@futurebird
