@Aether Sadly this disease is a lot more boring than the name suggests, it is horrible for the deer and you're probably right to cull them to try and stop the spread and suffering but it isn't actually hordes of murderous undead deer

@Mutsu_a125 @Aether But, it's prion related and they have no idea why it's happening iirc, when they typically no the source of similar illnesses in sheep, cattle, and humans.Who knows? They could be poisononing one of the main sources of meat many of us would turn to, if we needed to head to the woods.

@Tony @Aether chronic waste disease is a prion disease, they identified it first in 1967 in colorado, canadian clinical tests determined they could successfully infect primates with the prion by feeding them meat from an infected deer.the issue is that back then it was an uncommon disease, just some cases were documented after some years, it was back in 2019 when the cases first exploded in volume.

@Tony @Aether the canadians tested on multiple primates, from chimpanzees to rhesus monkeys, every primate they feed infected deer meat got chronic wasting disease, so assuming humans can catch it too is not a bad assumption when every primate tested can...
