jesus fucking christ. someone just told me "I block everyone who posts or boosts ads" and then blocked me because i posted about my games being on sale. people like this need to learn the difference between individual creators promoting art they made and "ads", for fucks sakeand if you do hold this backwards belief, then just block me quietly, because i don't need the aggravation from random asshats who can't tell individual artists from corporate entities, thanks

Wasn't against the rules but oh gods, that was a moron and he got so many reports too.) and you should just be happy they blocked you because that means they won't ever bother you again.I agree they could've just blocked you silently, but those people just... exist. Don't take it personally because it wasn't even personal, it was them just being unbelievably Don Quixote.

coming back to this i'd like to take this opportunity to talk about how important it is for artists to be able to promote their own work. the difference for me having a month where i earn next to nothing on steam/itch and a month where the earnings from those can cover at least a reasonable (but still partial) percentage of my rent is whether i post about the availability of my games on storesif i don't post, nobody finds my games and i earn nothing. generally speaking nobody else is out there talking about my games. because why would they? even people who enjoy them have no real cause to, it's not like my games are big shared cultural events. so if i don't talk about my games, nobody ever finds out they exist at allif only those who are rich and/or famous enough to have others discuss their work for them are allowed to have their works seen, what does that do to our art and culture? (hint: starts with a 'd', ends in 'isney')

Self-promotion or corporate-funded.If I need something I'll actively search for it, not being force-fed on social media.There're places specifically designed for your need - those show us what you've built boards or whatnot.It's like when your high school friend has started working as an insurance salesperson; you tell them to FUCK OFF.Maybe a bit more polite depends on the previous relationship.

@fool @eniko This is Mastodon. There is no algorithm “force feeding” you anything. You follow who you follow and mute/block who you don’t want to see. Get a grip on independent creators talking about their creations. This is good and healthy for a community.
