Whew! Finally got the most recent #Covid booster today after a 90-day wait after recovering from the virus in September (delivered by a careless friend who didn't mask on an airplane).

I'm still mad that my health insurance company won't cover an RSV vaccine. I'm switching companies on January 1 and hopefully that policy will cover it.

@IdahoLark I don't think any of the insurance companies in Canada covered it this year but it sounds like next year will be different. Since I mask almost everywhere I'd be exposed, I decided not to spend the big $ this year.

@EllenInEdmonton Same. Years ago I paid out of pocket for the old-fashioned Shingles vaccine because it sounded like such a brutal thing to get while traveling. But I wasn't going to fork over $600 for the RSV vaccine when I rarely go anywhere.

@SecondStix Good point! Our friend caught it on a plane from Chicago to Brazil in early September, and gave it to us there. I don't recommend being far from home when that sick! I didn't think many cases of the newest variant had been reported in the U.S. at that point so I wondered which version we caught. Either way, I hope I am extra immune when this takes effect.

@battusphilenor Seriously. As if a hospital visit would be cheaper than a vaccine.

@IdahoLark The fact that you can’t predict whether they cover it says loads about our healthcare system.

@IdahoLark Yeah, I also paid for the original Shingles vaccine and then realized that the coverage was very short-term. RSV was $300 but I don't have the ongoing paycheques to take that kind of a hit.

@GiddingsMJ It’s sad that I look forward to turning 65 so I can get Medicare—assuming the GOP hasn’t eliminated it by then. Until then I’m paying out of pocket for insurance.

@IdahoLark @GiddingsMJ I enjoyed reaching that milestone, and the timing was near-perfect, mid-pandemic and all

@fortboise @GiddingsMJ Fingers crossed that Social Security will still be a thing in three years, too.

@IdahoLark Humana covered my girlfriend, but not me, and we had the same coverage, except I had the Honors plan as a Military Veteran. No biggie, I went to the VA Clinic and got the shot that afternoon free. I changed from Humana to the big local hospital for 2023. best of luck.

@IdahoLark Yes, it is sad. The GOP blames social programs instead of their tax cuts for the deficit. They do not believe in the common good.
