@Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam I just added the "Colossus: The Forbin Project" to my plex server and thought others might want the archive link.https://archive.org/details/colossus-the-forbin-project-1970

@TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam Here is a 5’ AI recap (though without the ending) of ‘The Forbin Project’

@TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam There's one minor flaw, to this story's plot, from the very start. Gamma Rays can't be electrically generated. The frequency is way too high. X-Rays is as high as can be made.So there couldn't be barrier of lethal Gamma radiation surrounding Colossus' massive logic circuitry. But a highly intense microwave field would be lethal enough. But I doubt anything could be made 100% impenetrable .

@TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam The US President's speech to the public is misleading. At least the part about mistakes could no longer be risked. The real reason both sides built a supercomputer to control their nuclear arms. They feared the other side would gain a speed to launch advantage, if they didn't.So the story's surprise that the Soviet had their own System, is bogus. The DoD had to have expected that spies would learn of Colossus, and it would be copied.

@TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam At 08:11 in the movie, it is said that the complex is surrounded by Gamma radiation and other anti-countermeasure devices. Possibly lasers, nerve gas, poison darts, piranha, rapid dogs, and killer rabbits.

@TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam There is a Russian to English translator, that sounds like actor Gene Wilder. But as near as I can tell, that is NOT Gene Wilder, under the name, Serge Tschernisch. The Colossus message display sound effect, got reused for The Bionic Woman Tv series' opening sequence, of Bionics specs. At 23:15 there's about two minutes missing, of a debate by Blake and Forbin, about Colossus exceeding its programming. Blake says it's impossible for it to grow.

@TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam This story wants us to believe that Colussus gets exponential smarter, the more it leans over time.and if that were true of human brains, we'd all be a super genius, compared to 19th century humans. As our basic knowledge accumulated. But I don't see that happening. At best, Colossus might optimize some logic algorithms, if it were programmed to do that.. But not make huge strides in computing power.

@TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam Thanks Man, another movie I thought of was Demon Seed. A bit campy for today's technology but it does address AI and creating life.

A gift for everyone: the only movie which will never be removed from any platform, because the rights were allowed to expire, either accidentally or on purpose. (nobody seems to know?)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtLZ8o6mkJMThe environmental premise of the film is ludicrous, but I find it to be an exemplar of how these weird attitudes have slowly been inserted into popular culture over time. Also interesting: most of the actors were non-professional.@RonV42 @TurdFerguson @Johncdvorak @drebscott @adam
