why are so many people angry about MDNI accounts (that aren't porn accounts) right now? i get how it's sorta excluding, but some people just might not feel comfortable with minors in their circles, especially if they're often lewdpostingi grew up on the internet like most people here, and as a minor, i was allowed into a lot of circles with adults who didn't give a shit about safety, and i was put into a lot of harmful situations that way to say the leastso from my perspective, isn't it a good thing when someone recognizes that their circle might not be a safe space for minors, and excludes them for their safety? but i might be seeing it the wrong way so i'd like to hear how others feel about it

@anime_reference ohh right i was gonna mention that but forgot. that's definitely shitty behavior, but i don't get how that translates to "you shouldn't label MDNI unless you're an NSFW-themed account" which is what i'm seeing a lot

@keat I don't wanna say it's overreaction to the percieved overuse of "mdni" but it feels something like it to me. I'm sure most of the people saying that are actually thinking with more nuance than just that, whether they'll say it or not

@anime_reference i hope you're right. calling out irresponsible behavior is important, but demonizing a whole class of accounts, many of whom may genuinely be trying to protect kids, seems like a really bad idea

@keat @anime_reference Yeah but the thing is most of those accounts are the ones who dehumanize us and treat us like crap just because we were born in an earlier year, those are the ones we have a problem with, the "I hate kids" people because it's hurtful - a minor :reiuwu:

@ShaMyouiMo @anime_reference i would've said the exact same thing when i was a minor, but minors don't get to decide whether or not you get protection—adults have to shield minors from sexual content whether they like it or not due to the whole nature of consent. it's our responsibility, not to mention it's the law.but to respond to your other post, totally excluding and gatekeeping minors from fedi just because people want a cool no-kids-allowed zone isn't acceptable either. i've been on both sides of it and i don't like it, but i don't know what the alternatives are either. if fedi wants to avoid discord's fate as a extremely unsafe place for minors, i think we should try and find a better balance
