@clive apparently when they originally produced these they sang the song at a slower speed and then played that back faster during production. You can tell for the 16-speed version.It's awesome.

@clive i once recorded the Alvin cartoon audio at double speed on a tape deck, played it back at normal speed, and found out the guy who voices Dave also does the chipmunks but the audio is played at a different speed for each chipmunk.

@clive one of my family friends sang on the original album. His story is hilarious, apparently in addition to singing extremely slowly, they had to enunciate the words very clearly. Otherwise you couldnāt understand it at speed. And the studio wall was a giant mirror, so they had to stop and re-record a few times because they were laughing at themselves in the mirror.

@clive oh good lord. Idk why this album was part of my childhood, because it apparently came out before I was born, but I have a clear memory of singing along to "Jesse's Squirrel" with my brother on the air guitar in his pijamas. This recording is gonna haunt me for years; I can tell. šš»

@clive Spectacular. When I was a kid, we discovered that by using the dimmer switch, we could record Chipmunks-esque speeded-up tapes. I have a couple dimmer switches here. Hmmm.Also, this reminds me of the first time I ever heard Bauhaus. I was tripping balls with a couple friends in our temporarily sober friend's dorm room, and she started playing "Bela Lugosi's Dead" on a tape player whose batteries were dying. I had no idea if that was just what the music sounded like or if it was the acid. And that's what this is very much like.
