This morning, I had fun netbooting all the Mikrotik devices that were stuck or had OpenWRT installed on them. I managed to revive all of them except one that got struck by lightning, and I believe it's beyond recovery. Still, I'll have to take it apart to see what got fried. I really like Mikrotik routers because they offer excellent performance, value, and long-term support. I've never had issues in my fairly simple setups, and they've always been rock-solid. More, they're European.#Mikrotik #Networking #OpenWRT #Tech #Router #Mastodon

@stefano lost my cable modem and router to a strike a few years ago. my NetGear switch threw itself in front of the rest of the network and saved the day. And it was replaced no charge as it came with lifetime warranty! I will look into Mikrotik, thanks!

@stefano I'm looking at putting up a wireless network for our local community of 160 homes in a poorly developed colony. My problem is I don't know what devices would be good for doing this on the cheap. My home LAN is all elderly Cisco equipment with WAP121s meshing to cover my whole farm. I'd like to put some solar power repeaters up and cover more of the neighborhood.

@nathan mikrotik have their own configuration style and need to be deeply understood, but can do a good job. At the moment, I'm using some Omada devices for wifi as I needed to perform some experiments, with Mikrotik or OpenBSD as router/firewall

@stefano @jhx figures that it would take a lightning strike to kill a @mikrotik
