From now on when people ask that classic question "So, what do you do?" my answer will be "I'm a musician. I just happen to support that pursuit with a full-time marketing job."When you meet someone, tell them who you truly are, not what you do to pay the bills.

@killyourfmI've been doing this all year long. When someone asked me what I'm doing, I'd reply "I help people understand technology and tailor it to their needs" as well as mentioning "that aids in funding my lifelong quest to open source everything"

@killyourfm what a great answer! After hearing years ago that it was the "tasteful, European thing to do" I have consciously not asked anyone what they do for a living. Even if they ask me, I never ask back. Americans probably think it's super rude, but it's like the literal last thing I care about when meeting people! Some casual friends I literally have no idea what they 'do'!!

@killyourfm this was one of the first things I noticed when I moved to Europe in my 20s: at social events and parties, “what do you do?l just isn’t a question that comes up. Or rather it will but much later in the conversation.
