       My computer just swooned and said, “you want me to have multiple programs and browser tabs open AND print something?? absolutely not, you tyrant” and turned itself off and sulked in a corner, and now Apple Mail just won’t show up for work at all. Ladies, ladies, you don’t need to be such a microcosm of the real world

       Totally underrated materially constrained time-saving feature: having a fast computer. I sat down to do a couple of things and next thing I knew I didn’t have time to shower before the next thing on my schedule. How do I make my computer fast? How do I enfastinate it??? Where is the little window that will tell me what bits are dragging it down? It is costing me in lifespan 😫

       @elana My mostly serious answer to your clearly rhetorical question ( it's Mastodon, somebody has to😉​) is that adding ram can often get a pretty solid performance increase in a marginal computer in a lot of cases.My current computer  is over a decade old, but we replaced the drive with an SSD and maxed out the ram, and it still works surprisingly well.

       @elana Well, my next advice would be to avoid Apple products in the future, if possible, since they provide significantly less bang for your buck, thus netting you a slower computer for your money, but I'm aware that changing operating systems is a lot of work

       @Njord I love Apple, I've been using their stuff since I was a wee babe hahaha, I'll never change! they mostly work beautifully for me for years and years and years, which is why I'm quite astonished that this one is giving me a hard time
