What alternatives are there to Substack for writers that want paid subscriptions?

@anderspuck I assume you mean hosted, not roll-your own? Here are five.https://www.wired.com/story/best-substack-alternatives/https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/01/wordpress-com-challenges-substack-with-launch-of-paid-newsletters/

@anderspuck I have seen some people mention Buttondown, and some people mention Ghost. I'm not familiar with how either platform works, just seen talk about them as alternatives.

@osma Thanks. I didn’t realize Wordpress.com had this feature. Yes, I did mean hosted services. I think it’s beyond the abilities of most writers on Substack to set up their own website to do this.

@anderspuck Yep. @jerry was just asking for the open source side at the same time. Many of these ARE open source, some with several supported, hosted options.

@martinvermeer @osma Yes, 2023 has not been a good year for Substack reputation wise.

@anderspuck I've found Ghost to really suit my needs.Beehiiv,; some hype around Buttondown.Authory is a good option for pulling your existing blog posts.I found WP Newsletter lacking.Patreon is an option, but you can't export later. They have a plugin for WP, but it's crap.

@anderspuck I would recommend Ghost for thathttps://ghost.org/I don't have paid subscriptions on my blog, but it has support for that. And everything else is very easy and straightforward.
