If I start smelling smoke, I'll leave, with a balled-up shirt over my mouth. This is a concrete building. Fire doesn't spread so easily here.

@posrev Outside of Ring 2 it looks more like this. It used to be the municipality of Aker and not a part of Oslo. It's more oriented around cars and subways. When I have looked for apartments in Oslo, I have tried to keep them inside of Ring 2. You can have cheaper rent outside but it doesn't really feel like you're living in Oslo if you do that. At least not to me.

@thor Auckland spreads out a long way and it's been car orientated since the 1960's. Only in the last 20 years have they started investing more in public transport. Especially trains.

@posrev Well, the central parts of Oslo are close to a harbour. Most central places in Norway are close to the sea. Generally speaking, if you're not near the sea in Norway, it's in the mountains somewhere, which isn't great for agriculture.

@posrev Mmm, inside of Ring 2 it's always been difficult to drive. Plenty of roads but you're always navigating a bajillion intersections and one-way roads and parking takes some effort to find. It's easier to walk or ride public transportation.

@posrev The inner city has SOME planning but it happened in the 1600s before cars existed, so there are parts of it that are designed as a grid, but not all of them. What used to be roads for horse wagons are now roads for cars. The ring system looks like this. As a driver, you want to be on one of the ring roads and then you exit to find your destination.
