NVK and Nouveau today are Proton 5 years ago, when Proton was announced it was insanely impressive but so limited compared to now, with 5 more years of development we may no longer even think about drivers when you buy a GPUProton Announcement: https://steamcommunity.com/games/221410/announcements/detail/1696055855739350561

@BrodieOnLinux one pet peeve I have with steam is, there are games that I can run fine on the Steamdeck, but steam on a regular Linux disto claims it’s windows only and won’t let me even install the game. :(

@huffles You've probably got a setting wrong because that doesn't happen normally

@BrodieOnLinux I’ll have another check, and I’m open for anyone to correct me - but I’ve ran into it with a few games. Path of Exile being one example. Thankfully, there is a non-steam client for that, which most Linux guides I’ve seen end up saying to use instead.

@BrodieOnLinux The main thing I look at is whether it works with the libre kernel.

@BrodieOnLinux Honestly, while being able to run non native games in Linux is nice, proton has honestly made me think _way_ more about GPUs and drivers. Before Proton and DXVK, I never needed Vulkan, but needing Vulkan by far and a way limits what GPUs and drivers I can use.

@BrodieOnLinux just as a follow up for this, after your response I decided to check all the options in steam on Linux to see what I might be missing.Seems that “enable steam play for all other titles” defaults to off at least on my distribution. So I take it back. No pet-peeve with steam. Now it’s just with many Linux “guides” that don’t even mention to check that option. Thank you again. :)

@huffles I honestly don't know why that wouldn't just be enabled by default nowadays
