@Terry Retarded take, Cratchit was the head clerk at an accounting firm, not a stable boy. Of course he wasn't making $7/hr. He also had 6 kids, one terminally ill, and a fat pig of a wife. $18/hr IS poverty wages with a household that size and they'd qualify for WIC CHIP and food stamps in current year America.

@Terry @TeaTootler Apparently Dickens wrote several Jewish characters in other books and was extremely clear with all of them that they were Jewish, so while it's still not explicit I think it's safe to assume Scrooge was not intended by Dickens to be interpreted as Jewish

@nierenstein @Terry @TeaTootler There's a very quick reference to Scrooge going to church after the visits of the spirits. Actually, this is more noticeable in film/tv adaptations. I know the Patrick Stewart one shows him fumblingly singing a Christmas hymn, and I think the George C. Scott version has him complement the song the carolers are singing.
