Vasey's ParadiseThis area was given the name Vasey's Paradise during one of John Wesley Powell's expedition through the Grand Canyon. Vasey was a botanist on an earlier trip with Powell. This unique waterfall flows out from the canyon walls through a natural underground river. The green plants feed off of this beautiful waterfall. @BGP I worked in the GC for a summer and met a old dude by the name of Bad Water Bill who would tell you a story for a diggydiggy, (drink). We bought him a LOT of drinks over the months and ever one of his stories were about when he was Scout for John Wesley Powell's expedition through the Grand Canyon.Amazing stories from a man who looked entirely homeless and when talking to you, for some reason, had to cover his left eye with his palm from time to time.

@LaNaehForaday EarthMomma, I'm sure he told some amazing stories. This must have been some time ago.

@BGP Im old! This was in the 70sAnd Bad Water was really old! He evidently was a young man, probably still in his teens at this time. What reminded me was the pic you chose bc BadWater talked about this virgin waterfall that must have looked like the one posted. But in his opinion what was remarkable was that on the cliff wall above them there was a large wooden boat that was hanging off a ledge. The ledge evidently, at some time, was at the water level in the canyon because when they scaled the cliffside to get to it, it was obviously docked on the ledge. He was impressed by the ropes that held it in place. They decided to just leave it there and it was marked on the map and became a pin point for directions bc they ended up passing it coming and going for a certain time during that period of mapping.Mind you this man was by all standards a drunk and had been for decades. Everyone in Tusayan knew him. The only time he was incredibly lucid was when he was recalling stories.

@LaNaehForaday Fabulous imagery in my mind of this gentleman. There are many stories that come out of the canyon. A good read is a book called "There's This River" by Christa Sadler. It's a compilation of stories from the Boatmen that have run the river.
