@feld It's kind of wild that classic designs are the realm of the rich, while most consumer grade stuff is "sleek" chromed plastic. :blobfoxdisapprove:

@feld @tk what is that last one though, why you'd need two distinct ovens at same time?

I had an apartment with double ovens. It can help for big family dinners if you have two sets of dishes that need to be at drastically different temps (like one at 340F and the other at 425F)

I got one of those a few months back ... it's funny how someone basically said "Let's make a small convection toaster oven" and rebrand it as an "air fryer" ... also when I lived in AU/NZ, convection fans in ovens were really common. Most frozen food had instructions for both normal and "fan forced" ovens (which just cooked it faster at lower heat)

@djsumdog @tk @feld @hannibal_ad_portas yeah airfryers are literally just very small convection ovens, sometimes with a stirring thingy in it too.my place doesn't have a convection oven, just a plain normal one, so it's quite nice to have an airfryer, i like results a lot more than grill.still use electrical grill for sausages tho

Yea I use the little grill insert thingy for steaks/chicken and they turn out well .. kinda wish I had bought one with the built in thermometer you can stick in the meat so it cuts off at exactly the right temp

@djsumdog @tk @feld @hannibal_ad_portas there is a 400€ grill that does have a prod needle thingy and washable plates and "bbq" mode that doesn't press on (and squish) the food, but that's a bit expensive and i really do prefer airfryer. Maybe someday, when i'm rich.

@tk probably has alot to do with the better aesthetics. If I had the money I which much rather live on some homely farmstead than the sanitized and ugly glass boxs that rich people live in now

@tk It has always been the case — with clothes too! But somehow it's really easy to tell apart cheap clothes that look simple from expensive ones. I suppose "classic designs" just don't work so well with cheap materials 🤷 @feld
