@tchambers imo servers should only be blocked for not policing users that are assholes to users on other servers, cause that can make the whole network unwelcoming. post as much crap you want if you're not tagging people who you aren't sure want to see that. responding to a conversation you're not part of with a controversial opinion is an edge case. do it carefully and apologize and back off if people react negatively.I'd love to know the thinking behind all isolated servers. #fediblockmeta

@wjmaggos We've seen the effects of tolerating fascists on Twitter and Facebook: inevitably, they spread disinformation and in many cases endanger the physical safety of vulnerable people. I think it's reasonable to call that "not policing users that are assoles to users on other servers."I suspend an instance when it's clear the fascist assholes are not being disciplined by the admin. Or, as often happens, the admin IS the fascist asshole.@tchambers

@diaeter @BlueDot @tchambers I don't believe in discipling people for being fascist because we all differ on what is fascist. Some will say supporting capitalism is fascist. Some will say it's being ok with #threads federating or JK Rowling. Perhaps not giving unconditional support to Ukraine is fascist. Many on the left are now realizing that these claims of fascism can be turned on us when they call us antisemitic for supporting the Palestinians. And some disinformation turns out to be true.

Well-intentioned people who find themselves sounding like Russian trolls should change their argument. @diaeter @BlueDotto get back to my comment that I think you were responding to, are you both saying that it doesn't matter if someone is engaging on the fedi in good faith, their entire server should be blocked if they disagree with you too much on an important issue of public concern? Especially if you can find a clearly very bad person or group that they agree with? I'm sorry if I have this wrong.ex. I disagree with Hamas etc on a lot but we both hate the current Israeli government etc.
