Let’s give Meta the benefit of the doubt for one second and assume they want to embrace and extend but not extinguish #ActivityPub. Where do they go for the extend part? XMPP has the XMPP Standards Foundation that gives a diverse set of stakeholders a framework to collaborate on new extensions. From standing on the sidelines for a year it looks a lot like #Mastodon is pretty much just doing their own thing.

@daniel from what i know, there's *technically* the activitypub working group? but a lot of the features we take for granted about the fediverse is just grafted on by one server and support hastily added by different ones, like you said they're just doing their own thing and expecting others to follow. i suppose the concern from that perspective is Facebook would just do some more of that but at a pace that independent developers can't keep up?

@astrojuanlu @smallcircles I’m aware of that website. It doesn’t seem like a lot of relevant stake holders are participating in that? I might be wrong but I haven’t seen #PeerTube or #Mastodon refer to any of the FEPs that are listed on that website.I might be wrong. My question was more of an honest question rather than an accusation.

@daniel @astrojuanlu Yes, two parties who mostly go it alone from the very start. That is unfortunate, and a sure way to a corporate takeover.

@daniel On top of what @smallcircles has already said (100 % agree with everything), we'd have to ask PeerTube and Mastodon _why_ they're not engaging, right? The community exists, the extension process sort of exists. Is it because they "don't have time"? Is it because they don't see value in it? Is it because they want to "move fast"?Without knowing _their_ motives, we can only speculate.

@astrojuanlu @daniel @smallcircles No time is the answer for PeerTube :)But we follow new FEPs and will implement some of them (https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/fep-2677-identifying-the-application-actor/3646 for example)

@Chocobozzz @daniel @smallcircles Thanks for chiming in. Perhaps we need something like https://caniuse.com or similar to track what apps are implementing what FEPs

@astrojuanlu @Chocobozzz @smallcircles Yes; we recently added that to xmpp.org too. Admittedly the XSF is not the best example for everything but seeing which clients and servers implement what XEPs is really helpful if for example you are looking for an implementation to test interoperability with.

@daniel @astrojuanlu @smallcircles to be fair to mastodon, I do see Claire participate in the FEP process with some regularity. I wish it was more of the team, and that they were more active about it. But it's not nothing.
