       @Malarkey33 @electronwarier These articles aren't correctly measuring value at risk (VaR) of derivatives exposure.These are notional values of the derivatives which don't measure $ at riskKey word is notional. Notional value equals the underlying asset price times the multiplier.For example:You buy an S&P 500 4800 call for $500. The S&P is trading at $4,770, so the notional value of this $500 bet is 100 x 4770, or $477k.$477k is the notional value, not the value at risk ($500 only).

       @Malarkey33 @electronwarier Notional value is reported annually on these banks' balance sheets, US regulation requires them to do so. So often times, these type of articles pull notional value numbers to represent "derivatives exposure" when in reality they're not an accurate representation of any real $ at risk.
