       I don’t get honest signaling in sexual selection. Like is it not more likely that the choosy animal chooses the mate on the basis of what they find attractive? Is the peahen really thinking about how impressive it is that the peacock survived with such a large train and that her kids will inherit his badassery and continue her dynasty?

       @gay_ornithischians Natural selection is favouring peahens that favour showy peacocks. Natural selection is causing sexual selection. The particular mechanism what makes peahens favour peacocks with large trains is not constrained by rational thought on the part of the peahen, all that matters is that it happens.
