@getimiskon @ezio what exactly is the danger of running outdated things on the Internet precisely? sure, if you do outdated web browsing you're probably asking for trouble, but apart from that I really don't get why "9x/XP/Vista/7 online = BAD THING, you WILL get virused"

@untsuki @ezio in the sense of using hardware assembled from a proverbial box of scraps and trying to wring the most performance out of it you can, yes, absolutely.

@atlas @ezio @getimiskon 9x is actually relatively safe (lol) these days, but nt5.x opens a ton of ports and services by default which give it an extremely broad attack surface and unlike other operating systems of similar vintage, due to microsoft's commitment re: backwards compatibility, such machines are still actively sought out by attackers to compromise for botnet nodes and the like

@allison @ezio @getimiskon @atlas That reminds me how I used to scan machines with open radmin access (I think it was bundled in a bunch of repacked Windows ISOs a-la FuckYouBill/ZverDVD) and mess up people's computers.

@lina @ezio @getimiskon @allison @atlas Indeed. Same as with MediaGet RAT that some anon used to mess with people on livestreams a couple years later.

@lina @allison @atlas @getimiskon @mint The point was how broadly tools like this get installed in a way ripe for 'misuse', not about the agency specifically.

@cvnt @getimiskon @allison @mint @atlas happens, just a shame that it's not exactly public knowledge when shit like that has vulnerabilities and backdoors
