My feeds are filled with people who have COVID right now. Please test before you get together with friends and family (especially vulnerable people like those with diabetes or those over 65) and stay home if you have symptoms. In the U.S., you can still get four free tests at https://special.usps.com/testkitsAnd if you've stopped wearing a mask while you're out running errands, it's a good time to start again.

@grammargirl Yep. I slacked (stupidly) for 1 week. Didn't wear a mask 3 times (haircut, car wash, & picking up pizza) and bam, got COVID (now getting over it). This was the first time and I have been so careful up till now, wearing a mask everywhere until this. It is everywhere. If you don't mask, you'll get it. On a good note, my son never got it because we have air purifiers in our home. I was symptomatic before testing positive, & only started wearing a mask at home after testing.

@flowerpot @grammargirl First time for me as well. I mask everywhere I go. I slacked off at my works holiday party 4 days ago as everyone wanted pictures. Fortunately, I'm also up to date on all my boosters. Second day, I'm feeling significantly better than yesterday. I was pretty miserable when s/sx first hit Good reminder for everyone to mask and be safe!

If I knew who she is I'd dox and publicize her widely. I'm doing fine but our family get together after 4 years is out the window.

@grammargirl Considering my age (hint: my baby pictures were cave paintings) and health I just got a Pfizer booster. I didn't even feel the shot, and 2 hours later, my arm isn't any achier than it usually is. I felt a little "icky" for about an hour, but I'm over it.I live in a small town, and COVID is popping up here.

@grammargirl Thanks. I am much better and was fully vax'd as of Oct. 15. FYI on what to expect: I'm not sure what variant I had, but it started with a slight sore throat (17 days ago) then the next day into full-blown flu symptoms w/ fever & cough. I didn't test pos until 3 days after symptom onset. If you think you have it, please remember to test every 2–3 days.I tested neg 10 days after symptom onset, but still have headaches and remnant dry cough. Honey & fresh ginger in hot water helps

@dbc3 @grammargirl yup... We have it in my house. Spouse got it first from an accessible taxi driver. Driver was clearly very sick and not masked. Spouse and his father were masked but trapped in a vehicle with a sick person. We are really pissed at that driver - risking the lives of people who already have health problems. We haven't celebrated Christmas with family in four years, and we might miss out this year too!

@dbc3 @grammargirl Same experience. 12 hour flight, girl two rows back coughing the entire flight, unmasked. I was boosted in October and wore an N95 apart from meals, three days later tested positive for Covid for the first time. At least 9 people minimum would have also gotten Covid.Next time I’m flying I’m going to wear a 3M Aura and listen for coughers. Any sign and the mask is staying on the entire time, will treat the time like a fast.

@flowerpot @grammargirl when i had it last year I didn't test positive until I'd had symptoms for 3 days either! It was so odd bc my partner had taken a test some days prior bc his kiddo was sick and taking a test just in case, and kiddo tested negative but my partner tested positive! He got really sick a few days after he tested. It's so wild how even presumably the same strain (since we live together & such) can affect people quite differently. 😕

@itsmeholland @flowerpot I've seen similar things. Someone will get it from what has to be a passing encounter, while another person who lives with an infected person and takes almost no protections stays uninfected. It's unpredictable.

@FaithinBones I'm sorry you got sick. We can only do so much.I put off going to the dentist for two years and finally just went three weeks after my latest booster. (I also got the first appointment of the day so there'd be fewer people around.) So far so good. I had taken religiously good care of my teeth because I knew I wouldn't be going as often as in the past, and my dentist said my gums have never looked better! 🏅

@grammargirl People are contagious with COVID before they have symptoms; they may never have symptoms and still be contagious. You can be infected, test negative, and become positive (and infectious) four hours later. If you're over 50, the protection provided by vaccination against severe outcomes is gone by about six months from the date of your last vaccination. Which is to say, it's fading out through that time and is never so strong as it was against the wild type.

@bodhipaksa Exactly. I'm so used to wearing a mask it hardly even seems like an inconvenience. Sometimes I wonder if the people who resist it so much just haven't found a mask that fits their face comfortably (but I'm sure it's not that simple).

@grammargirl Just had it myself, for the second time, here in the UK in the run up to Christmas. There seems to be a heck of a lot of it about again. It made me feel like absolute crap for several days. I tested and isolated, eventually testing negative again on Christmas Eve, but even now I have a ridiculously irritating cough (either a post-Covid cough or something else.

@wheellixx I'm so sorry to hear it! I hope your cough goes away soon.I don't know about the UK, but they're saying next week in the US, we're projected to have the second highest COVID levels of the whole pandemic (based on waste water).https://med-mastodon.com/@luckytran/111687906949260926
