(1 of 2) It's tough for a small non-profit to promote its work and itself. One of the ways #Apereo has traditionally relied on is #Twitter, but we're made the decision to focus our social media on #Mastodon and #LinkedIn were we find more of our peers in #OpenSource, #HigherEd, and #EdTech. After years on Twitter many look to that account to follow Apereo's work. How can we help our community stay up-to-date, while also transitioning to our new primary platforms. Here's what we're trying…

(2 of 2)Moving forward, we'll post directly to Mastodon, using all of the platforms networking tools, hashtags, account links, etc. Then we'll take a screenshot of the complete #Mastodon post and attach it to a corresponding #Twitter post, with an invitation to learn more about the topic under discussion--and other #OpenSource #EdTech in #HigherEd--on #Apereo's Mastodon account. We hope this will keep our Twitter followers up-to-date, while encouraging our community to join us on Mastodon.

@apereo That seems a good thing to try for sure! Looking at your X account, one thing I'm noticing is that the per post views are very low - typically well under 100, with very few likes or engagement. Follower numbers can be a bit misleading given the state of things on Musk's site. It might be worth putting a time limit on something like this, so it doesn't drain energy for very limited impact, and to just retire the account. Just my 2 cents. :)

@eloquence Thanks Eric, this is a great feedback. It is a lot of work, and we would rather spend our limited resources building our Mastodon and Linkedin community than chancing Twitter. TBH, our Apereo Twitter account isn't huge, and it's probably more valuable for us to build on Mastodon than chase Twitter. That side, considering the total number of followers on all of Apereo's project accounts, we're hoping to serve as an example and offer an approach. Thanks again for helping us help.
