My instance has now been suspended from Floss.social. I can no longer share my content via @buddiesofbudgie or look it up on that instance. All for expressing my concerns over the assertions by the admin that someone must be bought out, not care about marginalized individuals, etc. just because one might be interested in using Threads for a wide range of reasons.Cool 👍 1. I deeply care about marginalized individuals and communities.2. I deeply care about highlighting the issues that these communities and folks have.3. I care about folks having safe spaces where they can engage in productive and insightful manners.You know what else I care about? Making sure that I can connect with those individuals on other platforms, share open source, and share the exciting things people are working on with a seriously massive part of the Internet.You don't have to choose between supporting various communities and using a social network. You can do both.If anything, I would argue that you should do both. You should break down silos and challenge people's dogmas and viewpoints. Do you think we would have gotten as far liberally as a global community if we didn't challenge each other to do and be better?

@Jain @buddiesofbudgie Happy to get cookies, less about apparently being on the dark side of the Fediverse.Like I 100% get people have had really shit experiences with Meta, Instagram, etc. before but are we really going to let a few individuals on a platform of 100M+ ruin the opportunity to actually promote LGBTQIA+ rights, rights for other marginalized individuals, and other important topics?There are always going to be racists and shitheads, that shouldn't stop us from trying to educate everyone else who isn't either of those things but rather just lacks experience with those outside of their bubbles.P.S. @me @Jain @buddiesofbudgie it's about privacy. They openly admitted to data harvesting in their emails to the admins 7 months ago. The admins that agreed to federate anyway are under NDA, probably with a little financial encouragement. The others tell the truth.

You can always make your posts unlisted, followers-only, or ya know just not say something public that you do that want the world to see.I see it as no different than archive.org being used to archive public social media accounts, websites, etc.

Fedi is a privacy nightmare when it comes to data collecting, it doesnt matter if Meta do so too and the basic Protocols are built around that...Yes i agree that its a bad thing, no its naive that someone belives that one could prevent it

@BeAware @buddiesofbudgie @me I feel like shocking you even more :blobcatevil: Do you know how instance blocks really works? The standard protocol does have specified that basically everyone can fetch your posts even with an instance block. Mastodon created a setting which you can force that every server needs to authenticate with your instance so you can enforce your blocks. But the default is its turned off since it would mean that other fediservers who are protocol compliant but doesnt know that "mastodon specification" would be left out of federation. I think gargron called it secure fetch, look it up in the configuration docs.Welcome to the fedi privacy nightmare which most people simply do not understand :ablobcatwave:

@lanodan @buddiesofbudgie @me @BeAware I think its compliant since one does agree that "public" post are public as it says... As i said, its also stated in the default Privacy Documents. I dont think that GDPR would apply whens it comes that a instance shares posts according to the specifications...
