why do we think swearing an oath on any book means anything? does it even say in the Bible anywhere that if you swear an oath on the Bible and break it you go to hell or something? what the hell is all this? @pete_zeratt I had a litigation prof at UMN among top experts in the US. Taught us that the koran, torah, etc can be subbed in for a bible. Judges allow it because the purpose is an attestation to swear by what is "holy"/sacred to someone, hopefully to help them tell the truth. Regardless what they use, IF they lie, and the prosecutor can prove it? The witness is subject to charges including contempt of court.

@primanox yeah that makes more sense. the pageantry seems pagan to me. I get triggered by conservatives acting like the state is holy. I see this as a contract between man and state not man and god. as worthless as the people saying it.
