       Before the Constitution it was 13 independent sovereign nations able to leave the Confederacy (which is what the new Nation was called at the time). The Articles of Confederation and the Constitution were not recognized as binding documents holding any state hostages in perpetuity. Lincoln remade that confederacy in his own image, creating an empire with a Caesar at its head. Today we are seeing the results of the totalitarian seeds that Lincoln planted. Until American history is taught again there will be no freedom.

       @pensees I agree: Lincoln wanted a Napoleonic government. The #14A eventually made that permanent.
