       @thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social @tlenewspodcast@podcast.thelinuxexp.com Oh by the way. Bumping the minimum x86_64 version is worse than you probably think. It goes far beyond just the kernel, so if Ubuntu derivatives wanted to keep supporting older systems, they would need to rebuild all packages.The gist of it, is that when you compile programs, you can selected which instruction sets the compiler should use (In gcc, this is done via the -march flag). If you were to try to run the software on an older CPU, you will get an "Illegal Instruction" error.
