@alex_02 It looks to be all Intel so Linux should be fine on it.

@macmittens@social.linux.pizza @alex_02@infosec.exchange All AMD would be too. Just don't get anything with Nvidia graphics and you'll be fine.

@macmittens@social.linux.pizza @alex_02@infosec.exchange Although I would not recommend prebuilts, their mobos and PSUs are a pain in the ass, trust me. Just find a used custom build PC.

@dushman @macmittens Not a fan of AMD for my desktops that run Linux. Prefer it for Windows and gaming.

@macmittens@social.linux.pizza @alex_02@infosec.exchangeThose mobos have the shittiest firmware I've ever seen. The PSUs are non standard garbage.

@dushman @macmittens older intel pcs have always been reliable, and exotic hardware is a pita to deal with on linux.

@alex_02@infosec.exchange @macmittens@social.linux.pizza x86 AMD is not exotic hardware lol. My main rig's CPU was a month old when I got it and it ran without issue.

@alex_02@infosec.exchange @macmittens@social.linux.pizza New AMD or Intel hardware will run just fine on a rolling release distro on latest kernels.

@dushman @macmittens I think you forgot the part I wrote that said "I'm broke" and no I'm not going to get a CPU that is x86 and AMD where I don't know 100% how reliable it is and if it would fail without a reason. If this hardware is shit, fine, but I'm literally going to run Debian running an Openbox WM on it. Just because the hardware runs seemingly out of the box doesn't mean there won't be issues.

@alex_02 @dushman The PC you linked is just fine. Millions of offices use PC's like these everyday without worry regardless if they have high end PSU's or good firmware. However I do think your AMD opinion is a bit unfounded and a bit ignorant. I'm writing this on a machine with a 5950x running Gentoo and I have a few other machines I use that run AMD and Linux just fine, one of them goes back to 2010 with zero AMD related issues.

@macmittens@social.linux.pizza @alex_02@infosec.exchange It will run fine, I'm just saying. You can get good deals on used custom builds, you won't have to spend more.
