That Mastodon uses a ⭐️ instead of a ❤️ for ‘Likes’ is a good thing, where ‘good’ is the lesser of two deeply problematic things. (Though note that in my view @elk have made the wrong call in sticking to the ❤️ cow path)I really don’t know what the answer is to the cognitive tax of having a binary button to tap for endorsing an astute observation on a really really grim event 😔#ui

@urlyman @elkI mean... from experience on Other Networks, I'd already long since internalized a binary "like" option as meaning "I recommend this post as worth reading" as distinct from "I completely agree with everything said here" or "I endorse whatever was described here"... but a star does a much better job of conveying that than a heart, and was IMO a great choice.

@urlyman @jbm @elk In Elk, you can go to Settings > Preferences, and check the Use Star icon for favotire. The default in Elk is aligned with a change that is coming to Mastodon's default UI to use "like" instead of "favorite" and the heart icon
