This word processor is really great with almost 10gigs of installed crap that I can rent for $100 a year to perform the same functions it did when it fit on two floppy disks and you only had to pay for it once...... but what I really want out of my bloated productivity software is some language policing.Oh wow! Microsoft to the rescue.

@jeremiah I feel that is a perfect analogy for the progression of all technology... bloated

@jeremiah You know Microsoft, you're only gonna make me want to mock retards even harder with your silly suggestions. The turning radius on this car is so munchausen syndrome by proxy bad.

@jeremiah I was running “apt upgrade” on one of my Mint Linux systems last night and noticed all the packages for LibreOffice…something I don’t even use. I mean, seriously, do you need anything more than vi? ;)And yeah, fuck renting software…or anything else for that matter.

@PhoneBoy libre/open office's worst aspect (and one of its greatest strengths) is MS Office compatibility. That's a lot of the bloat; as with modern apps, there's a shit ton of media resources (graphics, documentation, etc.)Under Windows 7, it needed about 300m, today it's around a gig. That's 300% bloat, but still 10% the size of Billware's fat ass.I live and die by LO for writing, business concerns. Calc and Writer are open most of the time this machine is up. :-)

@jeremiah I’m sure LO is a fine product for what it tries to do. I’ve gotta use Office 365 for day job stuff. I probably spend more time in Google Docs than anything else, primarily because it’s how @Pheonix420ValhallaVixenofThe42 and I collaborate on our show script. Otherwise…a “word processor” is something I just don’t care about.

@PhoneBoy @Pheonix420ValhallaVixenofThe42 LibreOffice (Collabora in NextCloud) supports multi-user editing just like Google Docs, all without sharing details with Google.Other than the cloud-specific features that Collabora doesn't have, I don't know of anything MS office does that LO doesn't.

Which, of course, requires a NextCloud instance. One of those many projects that’s currently on the back burner…@jeremiah @Pheonix420ValhallaVixenofThe42

@PhoneBoy @Pheonix420ValhallaVixenofThe42 It's not hard to set up; about like a WordPress install.

@jeremiah @PhoneBoy I'm still looking around for a FOSS spreadsheet app for today / today's desktop environments, that starts in 0.5 seconds, and I don't care if it's compatible with .xlsx.

@progo @PhoneBoy if you don't care about Current, you could be looking for some outdated copies of MS Oriface (if they're not intentionally sabotaged on current editions -- 2013 runs on Win 10 just fine)Check out also Quattro Pro (for Windows.) Probably still runs, will be sick fast.

@jeremiah @PhoneBoy yeah these are good possibilities too. I should line up a bunch of possible solutions, and questions about those solutions and take notes while I try them all.

@jeremiah @PhoneBoy I have a real blog. It's a bit frozen right now while I've been working this past year in fits and starts to make my own CMS because DokuWiki and WordPress don't make me happy.

@jeremiah @PhoneBoy watch my feed here for when I get my CMS to "1.0-ish" status while I simultaneously publish the CMS and my rebuilt web site. Right now I'm targeting all the features my own personal web site must have, and leaving placeholders for me to fill in some more features later.Features:- Kinda static site generator but not really.- Quickly render/re-render static HTML by running a server-side script, for instant page loads from guests.- Server-side search, comments.- Plugins.
