The same as in Australia where a shoebox pretends to pass as a house, & the 'garden' is several square meters in total. To top it all off, the cost of these shoeboxes without gardens is the same as houses with 600 to 1,000 sq meters used to cost in terms of percentage of annual income.

I have never minded the idea of tiny homes, especially in the context of city and urban development and as a great alternative to trailer parks and project housing. They are also a good option for off-grid homes. What makes me mad about them, and what the video did a good job of pointing out is how much they are being pushed as the only affordable option, and how tiny house developments have none of the infrastructure to make them truly viable. We need to fix our infrastructure and get rid of superfluous and expensive building codes, licenses and inspections. Not all codes and inspections, but there are so many of that are unnecessary and exist only to pad city and state government budgets.

Fuck that nonsense. All codes and inspections are bullshit. These scumbags are not liable for the inspections if they make a mistake and people die or things go wrong, so they are useless with their immunity. Go and get an engineer to sign and inspect it, they go to college for 4 years and get a rubber stamp out of the deal they don't take a week long course and think they know everything like the inspectors. With that rubber stamp comes liablility and they are insured and are responsible for issues which then lowers your insurance rates. Fuck the government nonsense, everything can be done by people. When you are buying a home people should demand the engineer stamps and the inspections that the engineer did, that would make much more logical sense than this bullshit these scamming governments got going on, the government inspections are nothing more than tax assessing and confirming to the bank what is there on the property.

Inspections especially for gas and electrical work are especially important, and while I agree with you that engineers are infinitely more qualified, the rubber stamp of their design is not the same thing as ensuring that the construction is conducted correctly. I think we both agree that government enforcement is not the way to accomplish this, especially when there is a financial incentive to have more and more inspections, codes and fees.

The American Dream is slowly dying because while the price of construction material has gone up, wages haven't in the past 10 years.

No how about the fact that most of the lazy Americans now don't know how to build their own home. What the fuck are people relying on corporations to build a home, banks to finance the mortgage and to live in the system that you are suppose to belong to? Fuck that shit, go get your fucking hammer out, get your tools and build your own shit and fight to the nail against any government nonsense that tells you that you can't do it. That is the way, not complaining about utter nonsense.

@Lillyput bullshit THE LAW IS THE PROBLEM. There is one inspection that the government requires in Wyoming. Electrical. It's windy as hell there and have you heard people's homes falling over, blowing over? And blowing up because of the plumbing? The more incorporated a county or city is the more bullshit you have to go through and yes you got it. Don't build shit with other people's money. The notion of debt and not being able to afford things is also a main problem. Save your money and build something yourself and it is not that hard to accomplish, the biggest hassle you will have is fighting those that think they have authority over you. You have to be able to read the bullshit that they have in their codes and rules and use it against them. They don't even read their own shit and if you can stall them with lawyers and paperwork, you will come out better. Bureaucrats hate one thing, paperwork, give them so much shit they have to read that when court time is due they will loose because they will not read anything and the city or county attorney will give up as well. There are statutes of limitations that if they do not go after you that it is tough shit and you get to keep what you have. Selling off your madness is a different tale though. It is easier to beg for forgiveness than as for permission.

Construction materials go up because not many people want to work in logging or sawmills. But sweat equity is still a thing... Sometimes you have to ignore bullshit like "the economy," and just build a house because you need somewhere to live.
