None of the new podcasting apps is native iOS/Android and that's why they will all continue to be less-than-they-could-be at best and terribly sucky and slow at worst.

@beshr frankly, o don't even understand the concept. I mean, if you can get the URL of the stream you want to listen, open it in your phone's browser and if it works in the background with screen off (which it does) then what the fuck for people keep making up all those retarded apps?

@ThatCrazyDude This is like riding a bike on a highway; sure, it works, but you'd be missing out. Also offline access, subscription, notifications. search, control, integration, many other things....

@beshr yeah, but in the end of the day, how many people really do (or wish to do) more than hitting the play button and listening to the thing when they feel like it?Personally, I don't give a flying around fuck about artworks, transcripts or anything like that. It's not like I'll be starting at my phone while listening to what's essentially a damn radio on demand sort of thing. Why reinvent the wheel? Can't make it any more round

@beshr Check this out: it's not even a player and yet it will stream in any modern browser. You can listen, you can download.... What more do you really need? ;)https://mp3s.nashownotes.com/NA-1616-2023-12-14-Final.mp3

@ThatCrazyDude @beshr Problem is, I don't know in advance when I need offlilne access. So its nice, that the phone has stored a collection of podcasts I can listen to on demand.

@ThatCrazyDude @beshr I don't need anything fancy either, the podcast app just downloads 3 or 4 of the latest podcast episodes I listen to, deletes old ones and tracks which ones I have listened to, remembers where I left off. Pretty basic.

@ThatCrazyDude @Wy7usa generally speaking it comes down to user experience... You can taste soup with a fork, but why not just use a spoon. Anyway, I don't knock down however people want to do stuff, but this is real valid reason why apps are better in some cases.... and all i was saying is that I prefer native apps than web apps wrapped in an app.
