@HebrideanHecate >A woman was raped in the tube, no one bat an eyelidI have to wonder what would be the fate of any man who would have gone in to help. By "wonder" I mean he would have gone to jail, with the victim probably voting to send him there too.

@EvilSandmich @HebrideanHecate This is exactly it. Men are a problem when they rape. They are also a problem when they harm the rapist. When all masculinity is "toxic," one forfeits the right to complain about male inaction.

@PereAvaitRaison @HebrideanHecate Well most of them think there is some solution to the issue that doesn't involve men, which is complete fantasyland nonsense. So it's back to what I repeatedly say: yes I agree, the current version of the patriarchy is awful, but it's the one feminists have chosen.

@EvilSandmich @HebrideanHecate It's debatable, historically, whether there has ever been a society that has NOT been patriarchal in some fashion. There are matrilineal societies, and even some that have accorded to women - what even to our standards -- are rather extravagant ruling prerogatives.... Charlevoix described such things among the Amerinds in the French territories in North America, for instance. That said, further reflection and experience seemed to confirm that these arrangements are naturally brittle and easily subject to conquest or decay. Most commentators recognized this by the 18th century. Give men little reason for productive engagement and they will go elsewhere or they will plunder. Pleading and complaining about this changes nothing.Nature is partiarchal. Sometimes one group of men convince women that it is otherwise, for the sake of solidifying their own power. Pretty illusions can have force for a time. Usually not long.
