       @keywordsalad @m @chrismessina @zubatshitcrazy Do you really think XMPP would have been more successful if Google Talk never existed? Would XMPP be the de facto communication standard by now, if Google Talk didn‘t federate, or if the other servers rejected federation with Google?I would argue if Google Talk (and Apple iChat) weren‘t discontinued, XMPP might have had a chance to become mainstream. Maybe it‘s the same with Threads.

       @davidhaller @keywordsalad @m @zubatshitcrazy XMPP had its moment, and gave way for successive chat protocols. Twitter originally supported XMPP too — did that help or hinder adoption?
