Does anyone ever feel burnt out with how divided everyone is over everything? I know I do. It's frustrating. People are so tribalistic now, you can't even have a civil conversation with someone who has different views online. As soon as they realize you're not part of their echo chamber, they shut down, get mean, and want nothing to do with you. 🙄 This behavior is especially bad with the younger gens. Older gen is not quite as bad. Still bad, but not nearly so much as the younger ones.

@aevisia Heck in a few online conversations recently people started arguing with me when I was agreeing with them. I have to remember to hit 💯 FIRST before saying anything else or they assume they your must disagreeing simply because you are responding. 🤔

@FullTimeSailorI try not to, but it's hard some days. I could be having a pleasant conversation with someone about something completely unrelated to politics or what's going on in the world, and then said person starts digging around my social media, finds out my views on some things, and it's like a switch flips and they get cold. 🤦♀️ I just wish people could just be pleasant. 😅 Enjoy conversations for what they are, connect with fellow humans. We don't have to agree on everything. Augh. 😖

@aevisia some leftists grumble that this causes an echo chamber which then creates tribalism. Their incorrect assumption is that their ideas are (obviously) superior and their persuasion skills are so refined that if only others listen to their points they will change their opinion.

@neanderthalsnavelI could, but it's usually people who use that feature on me. 🤣 I have had what started as pleasant conversations with people, knowing full well we don't align on political topics etc, still being friendly with them. But as soon as they find out about my own views, I start getting harassed or they block me. 🙄 People can't just talk as people anymore. So many just want to associate only with folks in their own echo chambers. The hatred runs so deep, over everything.

@neanderthalsnavelI completely agree with that. I haven't been following the MAGA movement but my mom is pretty big into it. It seems like it's the same for everyone right now, and maybe social media has made it easier to tribe up, but there are so many groups that used to be seen as underdogs; feminists, disability, races, LGBT+, vaccination status, etc etc it's like every single category of people who felt like they were singled out at some point are rising up.

@neanderthalsnavelIt's interesting to see though, there are a lot of these groups forging alliances with each other while determined to go to war with other groups. Is it even possible to find a middle ground at this point? So many won't bother to so much as communicate if they know they are speaking with someone with views they consider an "enemy".

@neanderthalsnavelYeah 😞 it honestly feels that way. Just discouraging is all. I can't help but feel like we're all moving toward a breaking point at this rate. Full societal collapse and chaos incoming. People get so fueled up on hate, in the future it might become them norm for people to really hurt and kill each other here in the west based on the tribe they're associated with. Glad I'm moving off grid soon 🤣 far away from the cities.

But I guess folks have been conditioned by it for so long, many don't even notice it. I didn't even realize how bad it was until 2020. 🤣 I was part of the crowd that fell down a bunch of rabbit holes while stuck at home. Once you realize how bad it is, you can never unsee it.

And you can selectively mute/block the more tightly wound ones and unblock/unmute them periodically to see if they actually have developed something interesting and untiresome to say.
